Temporary Road Closure (Berinsfield, A4074) and diversion on 24th April 2017

On 24th April there will be some roadworks happening on the stretch of road from the H-Cafe/Berinsfield roundabout up to the Nottcutts roundabout. This is so that a new crossing can be installed to make the bus stops safer, at the same time, there will some resurfacing work being undertaken (for more details, see attached documents).

We ask all those that normally use this route to honour the detours, and not take unnecessary other routes, as this could increase dangerous traffic near schools and residential areas.

Oxfordshire Cycling Network (OCN) proposes a “Strategic Cycle Network for Oxfordshire”

I wanted to share this information with everyone, as it is focused on safer, and healthier, travel within our county.

There are proposals being put forward to get a new safer cycle route across Oxfordshire.  This could include a much safer cycle route between our village and not only the two towns of Abingdon and Wallingford, but also the main city of Oxford.

These key routes that affect us appear to come under the Primary Route proposed routes, which focus on “Key routes with high traffic potential to be prioritised for ‘all ages, all abilities’ infrastructure.”

On of the most interesting points in the proposal that I saw is around how these areas are going to be made safer, utilising the knowledge learnt from others cities across England and Europe as a whole.

The ‘all ages, all abilities’ would follow the high quality standards pioneered by the Dutch and since adopted by London, Wales, Highways England and an increasing number of local authorities in the UK.  Along main roads, cycle paths would be separated from the road and 3 to 4 metres wide.  In urban areas where space is tighter, ‘light segregation’ would be used to separate people walking, people cycling and people driving.  Junction design is particularly important and cycle routes would continue through junctions with appropriate priority or signals – no more ‘Cyclists Dismount’ signs.

If this is something that is of interest to you, I am sure they will appreciate all the support and help they can get, so please let them know via the email address on their site: ocn@cyclingukoxfordshire.org

Dorchester Spring Flower Show 2017

Photos from the day (we hope to add some more after Easter):
[envira-gallery id=”2587″]

A great spring show on a beautiful spring day – it really doesn’t get much better than that. At the last few shows we had been asking everyone just to enter a few more classes, or get one more person to enter the show, and you were listening, so thank you. Entries this year nearly doubled from 2016, and it really showed. Our long-serving flower and vegetable judge John Alcock retired this year (thanks John, for everything) and it was a pleasure to hear the new judge say that he was bowled over by the quality and quantity of our entries.

Huge thanks to the committee for all their hard work in making the show run so smoothly. Jenny Nudds retired this year after more than thirty years of service; it was very sad to see her go but we’re so grateful for everything she did. This leaves a small and very experienced committee but we could still do with a bit more assistance, especially on the day of the show – do contact me if you could help. And see you all on the 2nd September for the Autumn Show.

Lost: Bike from outside co-op

My old, red Raleigh women’s bike, with basket on the front and kids seat on the back, went missing from outside the Coop this evening (Thursday 30th March) at 6.45pm. Did anybody take it by mistake? There was a box of stuff outside the Coop saying “free to a good home”… so it is a possibility. Please let me know if you have any information about its whereabouts. thanks, Louise Aukland. 07900 516562.
