Thames Valley Police: Witness appeal following sheep being attacked by a dog

Thames Valley Police are appealing for witnesses following sheep being attacked by a dog.

On Saturday the 2nd March at approximately 4.30pm a dog called ‘Willow’ was seen to chase sheep in a private fenced field, biting one sheep several times to the leg and neck causing significant injuries. The dog was off the lead and there was no urgency from the owner to stop it.

One sheep was found dead with two unborn lambs and another suffered injuries requiring veterinary attention.

The location was next to Days Lock, River Thames near Little Wittenham and Dorchester-on-Thames.

The dog is described as possibly a bulldog breed with brown fur. Witnesses heard the name ‘Willow’ being called. The owner was a man aged approx. 50-60 years old, about 5ft 6 – 5ft 8, proportionate build with grey/white hair which was collar length. He had facial hair the same colour as his hair and was wearing glasses with thick rims and round lenses. He was wearing a green jumper and grey trousers.

If you know anyone that matches the above description please call 101 (or complete an online form on our Website www.thamesvalley.police.uk) and quote reference number 43190065722.

Looking for volunteer curator (part-time) for Dorchester Abbey Museum

This is an exciting opportunity to take Dorchester Abbey Museum into the next phase of its development, and make a valuable contribution to the local community. The post would suit an enthusiastic, creative person with a keen interest in Dorchester, its people and history – perhaps someone working part-time, seeking to develop a career in museums, or recently retired.

Dorchester Abbey Museum is a small, accredited and highly-regarded museum located in the Abbey Guest House adjacent to Dorchester Abbey, Dorchester on Thames, Oxfordshire. It is open to the public from Easter to end September, but its work goes on throughout the year. The Museum is managed by a small committee supporting the Curator, and run day-to-day by a team of 30 committed volunteers. We are seeking a replacement for the current Curator who has stepped down after a successful three-year ;period in post. The Curator is responsible to Dorchester Abbey’s Parochial Church Council and works closely with the Museum Committee.

Time commitment: 1-2 days a week (7-15 hours approx.). The appointment is not for a fixed term, but will be reviewed after 3 and 6 months, thereafter annually. We seek someone who is able to take up the post as soon as possible.

Required IT support for Dorchester Abbey Museum

Your Museum Needs You!

Wanted: Local person with relevant expertise to provide IT support for Dorchester Abbey Museum’s computer, new server and databases, and to help provide a hands-on information experience for our visitors.

This is a volunteer role which would suit someone recently retired or working part time who’s keen to get involved in a very worthwhile and interesting activity in the local community.  The databases are small and simple so it’s not an onerous role – once up to speed with the system, approx. a day or so per month.
