Dorchester Abbey Museum – Volunteer Curator (part-time)

This is an exciting opportunity to take Dorchester Abbey Museum into the next phase of its development, and make a valuable contribution to the local community. The post would suit an enthusiastic, creative person with a keen interest in Dorchester, its people and history – perhaps someone working part-time, seeking to develop a career in museums, or recently retired.

Dorchester Abbey Museum is a small, accredited and highly-regarded museum located in the Abbey Guest House adjacent to Dorchester Abbey, Dorchester on Thames, Oxfordshire. It is open to the public from Easter to end of September (3-4 afternoons per week), but its work goes on throughout the year.

The Museum is managed by a small committee which includes the Curator, and run day-to-day by a team of 30 committed volunteers. The Curator is responsible to Dorchester Abbey’s Parochial Church Council and works closely with the Museum Committee team. Our previous Curator has been appointed to a salaried museum post, so we need a replacement.

Time commitment: 1-2 days a week (7-15 hours approx.). The appointment is not for a fixed term, but will be reviewed after 3 and 6 months, and annually thereafter. We seek someone who is able to take up the post as soon as possible.

For further details and how to apply please contact The Administrator admin@dorchester-abbey.org.uk or tel. 01865 340007

Closing date for applications: Friday 12 May 2023

You may not be able to volunteer during our usual opening hours, but what about welcoming groups of visitors who come out of hours?

Could you help with creating displays, IT and admin tasks, social media?

We hope to see you, but if you can’t come on 8th May, please email museum@dorchester-abbey.org.uk for further information and a chat.

Dorchester St. Birinus Primary School – May News

The PTA of Dorchester St Birinus Primary School raised over £500 towards the school book fund in March with a popular quiz. The school hall was packed for the evening with members of the school community including staff, local residents and parents of children who attend the school all coming together for a battle of the brains…. And for wine and delicious nibbles!

There were several rounds including topics such as 2022, childhood days and music as well as photo rounds.

It was great to see everyone come together to have a wonderful evening and raise money. The PTA would like to extend their thanks to everyone who came, had fun and helped raise funds.

Should you wish to contribute to the book fund for the school then all donations are welcome and can be done so through the Amazon wish list https://www.amazon.co.uk/hz/wishlist/ls/3EAI7Q6N5EB2E?ref_=wl_share
Thank you!

We have lots to look forward to at school this summer including the coronation event in the village, some exciting trips out, sports day and our sponsored walk.

We run a breakfast club and an after-school club. We have places available and if you would like to see what we could offer your child please give us a call to arrange a tour. You can find out more from our website here: https://www.st-birinus-pri.oxon.sch.uk/
